A person with the title of Sempai (pronounced: sehm-pahee), the Japanese word for "senior student," holds a Shodan (1st Dan) Black Belt and has completed a minimum of 5 years of traditional Martial Arts training.

Sempai have also demonstrated a continuing dedication to futher study and is an official candidate in training for Shidoin (Certified Instructor.)
